This is where ideas for the OCAL Anniversary Contest go.

We would like to have a friendly competition that encourages submissions to the library in honor of our 12th release, symbolizing our 1st year of being a project.

I think we should have some sort of goal for a clipart image, then pick the winner, and then give them a free and nice design book (value like ~ 20-40 USD). --jon

Before I postulated about the types of contests we could have, but I think that Nicu is right that we should have an low barrier for entrance contest. Basically, we should start the contest on APRIL 1 and then end it on the last day of the month. Then, we need a way to select the winner and then will mail them the book. I can collect donations for the book to my paypal account (phillipsjd (a-t) gmail.com) and deal with purchasing and shipping the book.

The book I think we should give out is: http://www.thisisamagazine.com/compendia.htm (It is at the top. Click on the image.)

The question I have to you all is what the contest should be?

It would be good to decide this before the PR goes out for release 12 ;)

  • On the FAQ page someone asked about a CD label. So a competition to design an Open Clip Art Library CD label might be a possibility.

Idea for competition: Collections

reward the best collection of images, where we define collection as a group of at least 5 images with the same theme/style, where we put accent on the overall quality not the dimension of the collection. requiring collections, this will increase the number of submissions, but the low limit imposed coupled with the criteria based on quality may avoid receiving large amount of poor images.

example of such collections already existing in our repository:

Jury

i think we should have the jury nominalized before the contest start
