Moderation

Introduction
Procedures have been set up to assist the librarians in moderation of all the clip art that has been submitted.
All clip art that is submitted to the Open Clip Art Library via cc host is given the "unchecked" tag, this is so we can keep track of which images have been looked at by a moderator.
If an image is a valid svg file and is not a public domain issue or does not need cleanup, then the "unchecked" tag can be removed. Files that have issues should be tagged with an appropriate system tag. We use a couple of other system tags to keep track of images. These system tags are "pd_issue" and "cleanup"
"pd_issue" tag
- Use this tag if you have a question as to whether the submission is a valid image to be placed in the public domain. If the file is clearly a copyright violation then notify the submitter of this and remove the file.
"cleanup" tag
If an image needs cleaning up we add the "cleanup" tag. We define "Cleaning up" as the following:
- Reducing the document boundry so it conforms as tightly to the image as possible. For an explanation on doing this in Inkscape see this example by Ryan Lerch
- Converting any live fonts to paths. If the font used by the submitter is not on the librarian's computer then asking the submitter to make the change is probably the best option.
- Rendering problems. The image may just not fully render correctly or look wrong. Be careful here as many browsers do not fully render SVG files correctly. One should always download any file needing cleanup and look at it in Inkscape.
- Groups of clipart might need preview images. This may have to be done manually, preferably by the original submitter. The "cleanup" tag can be applied to these groups to enable Librarians and admins to check if the preview has been done.
wrong formats
Submissions that do not contain valid svg files need to be dealt with. These fall into several categories.
- Submitter may have submitted wrong format by mistake. Often a PNG or JPG file will be uploaded by mistake. here it is best to contact the submitter and ask them to submit the file as an svg file.
- Alternate vector file format may be submitted such as Adobe Illustrator (.ai), Freehand (.fh), PDF (.pdf), Corel Draw (.cdr) or vector EPS (.eps). Librarian could convert any of these files if they have the software available or contact submitter to fix. Otherwise note in comments so someone elsecan fix it.
- Files intended for the Requests, Filters (inkscape_filters) or Examples tags can be retagged with these system tags.
- Spam if obvious should just be deleted.
file order for multiple files
- A special note should be made of the file order when more than one file is present for one clip art entry. As of this writing the thumbnail feature will only work if the top file in the order is a PNG file. File order can be rearranged up and down through the "Manage Files" link to fix this.
