Why Styles?

All clipart collections show a huge variety of drawing styles. This is good, as users can choose the right clipart for their purpose. But on the other hand, it is sometimes desirable to have some clipart with a similar style that can be mixed without looking odd.

This is where styles step in. Styles provide some basic guidelines that artists can stick to if they want to contribute to a collection of similar-looking clipart. Artists that already use a somewhat consistent look in parts of their work can just make their rules explicit, so others can work with them.

Please feel free to add new styles, improve existing ones, and tag existing clipart that fits to a style.

Photo-realistic devices

Photo-realistic representations of devices that imply a three-dimensional look

• No artificial strokes or borders
• realistic lighting and shadowing (thus, not overly glossy)
• Use of gradients and blur where appropriate
• Only show the device itself, no scenery around it.

flat look with an over-emphasized outline

• only flat surfaces, no gradients or filter effects
• thin black strokes for individual surfaces of appr. 1px
• think black outline for the whole drawing of appr. 6px
